Competencies managed by CASS can be skills, knowledge, and abilities (these are usually what are meant by competencies) or other objects such as learning outcomes and learning objectives.

Competencies are organized into frameworks. A draft of the information model used by CASS to represent competencies and competency frameworks has been posted and is available for comment. This information model is intended for internal use by CASS. There are multiple standards for expressing competencies and frameworks and it is not the intent of the CASS project to create yet another one. The CASS information model attempts to capture the attributes of existing representations of frameworks and competencies needed for CASS use cases and that will allow CASS to ingest and export frameworks in standardized formats.
